A Thousand Words

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

A little country solitude… Tom and Gabbi go to Nashoba Wineries

Wine Away

As I mentioned yesterday, Tom came to visit B-town this weekend (“Slummerville”, as his brother so often reminds me).  For me, the whole weekend’s goal was to take a mental vacation.  We decided we’d do a little research and find a little vineyard in a little town somewhere outside of the city – purely for our health, of course.

It’s Blintz!

(I know, total rip-off of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ recent album, but considering the cover art…)

Tom came to visit this weekend (more on that later), but after he left yesterday, I decided to use all of my conflicting energies in the kitchen, despite it being just hours before the first ever Matesgiving was to take place.

A little dough always goes a long way, and I had a craving for crépes… with my leftover ricotta, blintzes were the obvious solution to all my worldly problems.

Whoops.

Day 9 (but really 18)

Apparently, I’m quite bad at this “every day” thing.  Le sigh.  That being said, I’ve blogged more this month than I have in quite a while.

Today’s big news came in the form of the Career Services and CMS-hosted panel featuring media professionals.  I already wrote about it here.

What I didn’t include in my post on Examiner was that I spent quite a while talking to one of the panelists, John Davidow, the executive editor of WBUR.org.  I must have said something right (probably about my thesis), because he invited me to follow up with him.  I sent him an email afterwards, so now we’ll just see what comes of it!

World Domination

Day 8

A beautiful, beautiful, soul eating thing came into my life in New Zealand.  One of the guys on my program taught us how to play Risk, a terrifyingly addicting board game in which players combine strategy and luck in an attempt to take over the world.  He quickly showed us the ropes while we waited for our flight in the tiny Rotorua airport.

Black Hole Sun(day)

Day 7 (accidentally)

For some reason, Sundays just seem to disappear.  They always end up being far busier than Saturdays, and easy to let slip by and end far before you’re ready for them to.  And yesterday’s, what with finishing off a fantastic retreat, cleaning up the Rodman’s house on the Cape, driving back to Somerville (stopping in Marshfield for a CHALLENGE!), singing in Carol’s studio class (forgetting half the words, despite spending the whole weekend muttering Italian under my breath), and of course, work.  I always intended to blog yesterday, but it simply slipped my mind.  And thus, I find myself a second day behind schedule.

Out Amongst the Trees

Day 6

Maybe it’s because I’m (supposed to be) reading Emerson right now.  More likely, it’s just because it’s freaking gorgeous here, but I am in absolute fall colors heaven this weekend.  The Mates are camped out at Roddy’s parents’ new house out on Cape Cod for our annual retreat, and we couldn’t have gotten luckier.  The weather is perfect, the house is wonderful, and, as always, the company is fabulous.

No Capes!

Day 5

Edna is definitely my favorite character in The Incredibles.  Takes no crap from anyone, says what’s on everyone’s mind, and is utterly fabulous, in a very-short-snappy-wears-glasses kind of way.

Old-y but Good-y

Day 4

Today, an old (not that old, in the scheme of things) friend visited. (Some small bits of thoughts follow..)

It just goes to show that a little time and space does wonders in putting things into a useful perspective.

This is hardly a cohesive (or coherent) blog post – but the joy in reuniting with old friends is enough to deserve comment.

On Maine

Day 3

(Whoops, I nearly let today get away from me.  Well, technically I did, but it’s still Nov. 4 on the West Coast).

We woke up this morning to some fairly upsetting, if not altogether surprising news:  the voters of Maine had approved Question 1, rejecting their legislature’s decision to allow same-sex marriage.  Worse, the “No on 1″ campaign was far less blasé than its Californian Proposition 8 counterpart, which had been a big argument for why Prop 8 had passed last year in the first place.

Mmmmuffins

Day 2
Since I’ve started NaBloWriMo a couple days late, I’m going to try to catch up with the month either today or tomorrow.

I’ve been meaning to post about these delightful little muffins I baked for Sunday’s choir concert since I made them Sunday morning.  They’re pretty easy to make and you could almost call them healthy… it also reminded me how much I love ricotta cheese.  I might have to go out and buy some giant pasta shells so I can make manicotti, which was always one of my favorite pasta dishes.
